Description

Most towns in Tipperary have compiled and recorded their very interesting histories, but no effort has been made to compile Templemore's past. Perhaps as a result of this, people are inquisitive and curious regarding Templemore of long ago.

It is necessary to fill the vacuum with historical fact before a confusion of legend and half-truth distort the true story of the area. The hope is that now people from the parish or those with an interest in learning about it, will now have an easy reference on the history of Templemore, its archaeological remains and the events that have shaped the parish over the past centuries.

Corkatenny, the ancient name of the territory and town, has during the centuries played its own part in history, and in troubles with various invaders! However Templemore must be considered historically to be of comparitively recent origin, and it has been called by geographers, a 'Landlord's Town'. This has given hiostorians an opportunity to ensure a correct and genuine record of life in Templemore through the years.

It is hoped that this bookn will provide a more accurate accout of some facets of the towns history that have been incorrectly recorded previously.
