Oulart-the-Ballagh’s Mick Jacob wasn’t the biggest man in the world, so how did he become hurling’s king of centre-backs through the 1970s and into the 80s? Was it because he was a genius on the ball, or a fiercesome warrior when chasing down an opponent in possession?

Both, as it happened. The Wexford legend won it all in purple and gold - an All-Ireland, four Leinster titles, one National League and three All Star awards.
