Since its foundation in 1944, Macra na Feirme has strived to provide a platform for rural Ireland's youth to be heard on the national stage. Over the past 75 years Macra has been the seed that organisations such as The Irish Farmer's Association, The Irish Farmer's journal and Foróige have blossomed from. This book, Macra na Feirme 1944-2019 - A History in Pictures is a celebration of the organisation's impact on the Irish social and political landscape.
From the early years of summer gatherings in an Ireland still feeling the effects of World War II, to this year's appearance at Dublin's Pride Festival this book aims as much as possible to reflect the wonderful work people undertook in the name of Macra over the past eight decades. The hundreds of photos contained inside are a celebration, not only of the organization but also of rural life and the people who make it.
