A beautifully written novel with the feel of an old classic that has modern takeaways from it. Silas is a great character, realistic and grounded but seamlessly fits in this fantastical setting of talking foxes, wolves and a Forest just beyond our fingertips but with entrances if you really look. When Silas helps a wolf on his way home from school, he did not realise how dangerous this kind act would be. Bitten by foxes who want the wolf, Silas is led on an adventure through the Forest to save not only himself but the future of the wolves. Will his voice fail him or will he find the courage needed to help? I was on the edge of my seat for the most of the book, I had no idea how it would end. This felt like I was reading an old book I used to love when I was younger but had forgotten all the twists and turns that take place. That's how magical the writing is, makes the book come alive in its lyrical prose and wonderful story. The illustrations add so much to the atmosphere of the book, the world felt so real without having all its mysteries of the Forest and it's magic revealed to us.
