In one amazing summer, in 1973, John Callinan played with Clare in the Munster minor, under-21 and senior championships. He was only 17 years of age. One of the greatest talents in the game of hurling was born!
Callinan would continue to pour fire and artistry into the Clare jersey until 1987, when he finally retired with two National League medals, three Railway Cup triumphs, and two All Star awards. There would be no Munster or All-Ireland titles to savour, however, as the Clare team of the 1970s ands 80s strived to become more than the people’s champions.
